Jonathan was a member of the Office of Public Security, the quasi-military organization that replaced the FBI after the coup. Ellie was a Constutionist, a member of the resistance movement dedicated to overthrowing the dictatorship now running the country.
After being captured by one of Jonathan’s patrols, Ellie thought she was bound for the west coast penal colonies. But Jonathan had something else in mind. He wanted Ellie’s resistance cell to help him apprehend a serial killer.
